Abstract

|
Between September 1985 and October 1986, 26 systemic-pulmonary aterial shunt operations were performed in cyanotic congenital heart disease. There were 24 modified Blalock-Taussing shunts using polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE, Gore-Tex) and 2 other shunt operations.
Underlying lesions included severe tetralogy of Fallot or its varients (N= 15), tricuspid atresia (N = 3), univentricular heart (N- 3), double outlet right ventricle (N= 3), transposition (N= 1), and pulmonary atresia with intact ventricular septum (N=1). Age of the patients ranged from 1 month to 8 years, and 9 of them were less than 12 months old. In cases of using PTFE graft, a 4mm graft was used in 7 patients, a 5mm graft in 13 patients, and a 6mm graft in 5 patients. There was only one postoperative death.
